Dear Mr. Gaddis:
Like his father, my eight-year-old son thinks your television show is tops.
Coming to pick me up at work one day, he said to his mother, "You won't have to worry about spending money on me for college."
She asked why.
"You don't have to go to college to be a fisherman, do you?" he replied.
"No, Bob," she said. "But you might want to go to college so you can make money for your family."
"Did Gadabout Gaddis go to college?" Bob asked.
"I don't know, Bob," his mother answered. "But not many people can make money while fishing like Mr. Gaddis does."
"Well," persisted the young entrepreneur, "Gadabout is getting pretty old, and when he dies I'll be ready to take over his program."
Brother, this portion of a letter from a perplexed father name Russ DeWaard
really tore me up. I mean it really tickled me.
Of all the thousands and thousands of letters I receive, none has ever been so
flattering in a wonderful, unaffected way. And none has hit upon something else
more squarely.
Everybody thinks old Gadabout has life made.
